The capital city of the United States, Washington, D.C., attracts not only politicians and idealistic international relations majors, but some of the most interesting immigrants, refugees and internationals from all around the world.
This is not to say that the North American residents here are not interesting either. They’re often transient people coming here for college or work and not leaving for several years, because, let’s face it, Washington, D.C. is in an economic bubble and has yet to go feel the pain of the global recession.
Having lived here in the area for 8 years: going to undergrad, leaving to live overseas for two years and then coming right back, I have run into some very interesting people and I have always wondered how I can share their lives and stories.
I’ll feature the lives of others here in DC (and sometimes when I travel abroad) as often as I meet them, so stay tuned for stories of extraordinary people who think that they’re ordinary. If you or someone you know deserves to be profiled on TheLivesofOthersDC.com, please contact me at powerofsocialmedia@gmail.com . I’m happy to profile you or your nominee and take photos or I can simply tell their story and make it as anonymous as possible.
I hope that these stories uplift you or at least help you learn more about another person’s life and culture and appreciate your own. Have some people in mind that you think should be featured on TheLivesofOthersDC.com? Here are some helpful hints:
- Anyone that was born outside of the United States
- You or your family came to the United States as immigrants, migrants or refugees
- You or your nominee has an interesting or unusual hobby, business or job
This list is just to get you started. I look forward to hearing from you.
